I don't know if there's a better name/description for this footstool/ottoman that I picked up from a curbside trash pile probably a dozen years ago. Though filthy dirty at the time, it actually cleaned up well and ended up being perfectly intact. (but for a little normal wear on its bottom) :-)
I think these things were relatively common back around the 1970's or so, not only in orange but the then also oh-so-popular gold, brown, and olive green at least -- I definitely remember that one of my Grandmas had a green one in her living room when I was a child. It measures about 12" tall and 16" across, slightly padded with a pair of little 'handles' on each side and a couple of curved 'seams' as decoration to its top surface.
Now it sits in my own living room, making a nice compliment to a likewise 70's-ish orange/chrome side chair. [which I'm not sure I've shown here...if not, I should?!]
I had one where the top came off for storage
Love the orange color, and say what you will, putting your feet up on an ottoman after a long day sure feels good
Too funny but I not only have your exact Marlboro ashtray, I has this ottoman as well. Same color and size but mine don’t have the handles and the design of the stitching on top is a bit different. I guess we both like obscure things...lol
WHAT FUN, Karenoke! :-) :-) :-) Is yours shown here someplace? (yet?) THANKS ALSO to Newfld and antiquerose for your comments -- the orange color is definitely an 'acquired taste' I suppose ;-) but I like it too (much better than olive green?!) and it *does* actually match my chair. (and thus 'work' in my room...?)
THANKS for the <love its> to antiquerose, Watchsearcher, fortapache, Newfld, nutsabotas6, dlpeterson, and Karenoke!!
Growing up in the UK, we called this a pouffe, it was only called an ottoman if it opened for storage.
No, I haven’t posted it...or any of the others I have. Maybe I’ll get around to it one day.
More THANKS to maryh1956 for sharing the love! To me, "pouffe" sounds much more-funner than either "footstool" or "ottoman" -- thanks for sharing! :-) :-) :-)
And for anybody that might be curious, I finally got around to showing pics of the chair (mentioned at the end of the description) which this pouffe ;-) now is paired with. Every once in awhile, I can actually even evict Woda kitty from it and sit there myself, putting my own feet up...?? <lol>
