I've been finding round stones or clay on our new railyard in Baytown Texas. Started out with these few yesterday now I've got over 30. All sizes and colors. Since there are so many I'm wondering if they are some sort of construction material or if they are in fact clay stones used by the Indians or clay marbles from the civil war era.
The blue color on the stones brings to mind something I saw a few years ago.
In Summerville, Ga, there is a place called Paradise Garden. It was the home of Howard Finster, a folk artist/preacher who adorned his property with art made from every assortment of found objects.
He made use of what must have been a few hundred round stone balls, larger than golf balls but smaller than tennis balls, which had been discarded by a blue jean manufacturer near his community. The company made "stone-washed" jeans by tumbling jeans with the stone balls to give an irregular wear/fade pattern to the garments.
Your finding the balls in a rail yard implies they may have fallen from a rail car. Perhaps they are the discarded stones from such a company and were being sent somewhere for reuse, repurposing or discarding.
Mr. Finster used them to adorn the top of a low rock wall along a pathway at his home. His look like the white ones in your picture.

Welcome to CW Emccorquodale! :^D To me they could be either concrete balls from a cement manufacturing drier tumbler, or filtering aggregate, from a water treatment plant. Just some things that I've seen that look like them. Good luck! :^)
Thank you all so much. I now have about 6 possibilities. Gonna keep digging and collecting them. Even if they aren't old artifacts, they look nice in a jar or wooden tray. I do lots of arts and craft especially Mosaics, may incorporate them into a project.
