I just purchased this nice 1/6 plate tintype of an early war Union soldier.

He is wearing a frock coat and holding his M1858 Hardee hat with a company letter of "C" inside the Infantry horn.

In his belt the soldier holds a revolver (Remington?) and a large knife.

Not a Remington and also the pistol is hammerless.

That's an interesting observation about the pistol being hammerless! Does that mean it has been disabled and cannot be fired?
I think the belt has several different wear-patterns made by the buckle as if it has been worn by different size men.

There were and are hammerless revolvers. And I've got nothing. Pin fire?

The medallion on the grip looks like a Cooper pistol. The hammer is missing from a pistol which should have a hammer.

I take back my observation that the hammer is missing closer observation shows the hammer is there but the spur is missing. On a single action blackpower gun this would have.made it impossible to cock.
