      I'm weird !

There's too much sorrow from the loss of loved ones to take pleasure in seeing this stuff, from my personal prospective.
Certainly, I know the process of preparing a body after death, but I cannot elevate that to entertainment....I'd just rather not think of it at all.
      But to each, his own.
I would just have to avoid looking at it.

I'm weird too I guess -- I think all this stuff is pretty cool?!! (though if mine, I might tell myself it was 'old medical equipment' instead of 'old funeral home equipment'...?? <lol> That <ahem> 'procedure room' with the huge porcelain sink and hydraulic table is crazy-creepy-cool, is that actually somewhere *in your house*?? <wow>

My old 1849 house used to be a funeral home from 1969 to 2016 when we purchased the house. Yes this is in a room in my basement. With an elevator in the next room over.

Oh and the last picture of the prayer table. I have a matching pair of torchier lamps to go with it.

The prayer table looks to me like one of a pair of coffin stands for moving a coffin around.

flashlarue, I'm betting the 'prayer table' is the last pic. (w/cross and votive candles) 3rd pic looks like a 'coffin roller' turned into a coffee table with the addition of a piece of glass -- a *wonderful* idea for "re-purposing" it IMHO... <lol>

Lamplover, without going back to look, the torchieres that match it must be the last pic in your recent post of all those awesome floor lamps?? I wanted to ask at that post if you'd 'inherited a funeral home' but thought the question 'too personal/bizarre'...THANKS for confirming?! <LOLOL>

Have to agree with Watchsearcher on this. Before you bought the home it was a business. I am not sure how displaying these items is respectful to them IMO..have you thought about donating the items in your basement? Is it a valid question to ask why you are posting these items after living in the house for over 2 years? YIKES

Honestly it used to be a very important rich family's home and was in their family until the funeral home bought it. The funeral home moved and sold the house to us. It's only had 2 owners before us. It's a huge old house in the historic district. Slate roof, huge carriage house. We got the place really cheap compared to other houses in the area. Only scary thing is taxes. About $10,500 a year. Oh an I only bring out the creepy stuff around Halloween. Otherwise it stays in the basement.

Growing up I had a friend who's father own and ran and lived in a funeral home...we played in there at night when no serves going on ..hiding in the coffins ... but we had to take are shoes off and wash our hands so we wouldn't get the liner's dirty ...an later on when living in Calif,,,, .. my girlfriend back then work at one I would pick her up in the back of the building and play with the guys who worked there while waiting .. the stories they had to tell ....anyways the table in the picture was use to lay the stiffs on and hook up a vacuum machine and pump the blood in to the big sink u see in the picture creepy ...lol

Would you still happen to have your funeral home item collection?
