I found this elk tooth fob at a yard sale today. It is unmarked but appears to be 10k or 14k gold with real elk's teeth. These were hand made one at a time so it isn't unusual for them not to be marked. Oh, the price I paid was 50 cents.
You have to give up some teeth to join? LOL!
Real Elks member's tooth!?
Nuts I know nothing of elks teeth
There was an uproar over the Elks using elk teeth for jewelry. In the early 1900's there was a fear of the once great elk herds being decimated. The use of real teeth upset the people. This nearly caused the elk teeth jewelry to be outlawed.
Very nice, I love these Order of Elks fobs.
Elk herds were really decimated around that time. Along with the buffalo, bison, and many other large mammals. It seems like we are the only species that has multiplied exponentially over the last 100 years.
Seems the Order of Elks herd is doing OK.
PROTECTIVE Order of Elks
