If it's a BOMB is it a dummy???
My friend who had a neighbor who's husband was in WWII and kept a souvenir
He died and she was selling the house. The home inspector found something on top of the beam in the cellar. The bomb squad had to be called. The neighbors
were evacuated. It was a Live German Hand Grenade!!!

You might try doing a rubbing to get an image of the printing to get more information. Use a thin piece of paper and a piece of chalk. A crayon might work, too. You could probably tape a piece of paper to it, to make it easier.

I did a quick search and could not find anything like it. I tried googling the letters I could make out. If it does turn out to be an explosive device, even if already deactivated, it might not be free if you call the police or army to get it checked out or disposed of.

If you are really concerned and don't want to just chuck it into a river, etc., then you might call the police for advice. Maybe they can look at your images and advise you, or tell you where to send them to get some advice.

At about two feet long and about 4 inches in diameter, it could cause some serious damage if it is an active explosive device. It might turn out to be something innocuous, too, though.
