I have been very fortunate finding some extraordinary pieces of art glass over recent years, but these are possibly the most extraordinary.
I have personally never been enamoured by many Loetz 'Richard' cameos pieces, probably because I generally prefer 'contemporary' bohemian art glass, rather than the romantical (yeah, I know it's not a word, but I like it), scenes of trees by lakes and hanging foliage, all a bit sleepy for me.
So imagine my amazement to find these bright and zingy art deco Loetz 'Richards'!
Most certainly manufactured ca.1925 or later. I like to think they were made during the dark age of Loetz production ie. post 1930 and possibly date to the mid or dare I say, late 30's. That might be a little fanciful. But they just have a 30s feel to me, a decade when simpler, cleaner geometric design became 'de rigueur'.
From these pics you would immediately expect these pieces to be thick acid etched, cut-back glass, but incredibly they're not and also not particularly heavy, 3 layers of glass a dark outer polished brown layer, which is extremely thin, a deep red layer and a medium inner sulphur yellow layer.
Both pieces have clear etched signatures in a style absolutely consistent with other Richard signatures and although the shape appears to be fairly generic it is a Loetz shape (PN III-1285) - Thank you Warren!

These are truly a fabulous find..... Never seen anything like them.... and I agree.... not "sleepytime" at all.

Fantastic pair, when I first saw them I thought French or German cameo and not bohemian
Looks to be the same yellow/orange and brown combination in my Loetz cameo posted here. But such a totally different aesthetic!! And yours has red as well. Never seen anything like these. This pair is extraordinary. Congratulations.
