This clock has the traditionally formatted thirty hour time and strike wooden geared movement. The original Clockmaker’s label is pasted inside the case on the backboard. Wonderfully turned and stenciled columns flank the sides of the case. This clock stands on it’s original carved paw feet. The lower section of the door is fitted with a decorative painted British and American Ships tablet. This tablet is original to this clock but had some painting repairs in 1960. . It measures approximately 29.5 inches tall, 16.5 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It was made circa 1830. I love the stenciling on the columns and splat.
Really great find. Sure don't see things like this everyday. If this leans toward the Colonial side, the scene is probably the usual Serapis vs Bonhomme Richard battle. Beautiful piece. Things like this is why I follow CW.
Blunder, Thank you for the info..I was wondering exactly what was depicted.
Or likely O H Perrys' victory on Lake Erie.
