Ernest-Baptiste LÉVEILLÉ and François-Eugène ROUSSEAU pieces are sort after and rare and I have tried to get a good piece at a good price (increasingly difficult these days) that reflects key attributes seen in their pieces. And I would like to think that I have found one here. Although I would welcome any and all comments from members with an alternative attribution. Whether this is or is not a Leveille/Rouseau it remains a wonderful piece of art glass.
This piece has a honey coloured base glass which is finely crackled. It has bright gold inclusions and includes the use of fine subtle blue, red and white swirling powders. It also has some externally applied gold to the rim and body. It has a deeply polished pontil and distinct, excellent age related wear to the base. All good pointers I would think to the maker being LR.
Stands 5" (12cm) high and has a maximum with of 6" (15cm). Bought for just €40.00 ($50)
beautiful piece of glass i think the predominant colour is exceptional
attribution i,m no expert
but many aspects point to the right age

Thank you Malkey, always the first of the mark, I always appreciate you comments buddy.
Simply beautiful glass.
Bloody Gorgeous!! (You are really starting to get on my nerves now Phill!!! :). An exceptional piece, beautiful tones and colour! Love it!! Yet another wonderful find, is it a ‘keeper’?
Hi Lesley - yep, this one is a keeper whether LR or not.
Stunning!! It all looks right to me for being Leveille/Rouseau. I saw this example, too, which has some similar colors to your vase. http://art-du-xxeme.com/boutique/leveille-rousseau-art-nouveau/ (But yours is nicer!) :)
Thanks Michelle, I've seen that one too. I do have an open mind on these pieces.
There is also this example: https://www.invaluable.co.uk/auction-lot/an-ernest-baptiste-leveille-glass-basket-french-42-c-11e39be6b8
But that signature - well , I'm not sold on it, looks like it's been added later to me. Of course it doesn't mean that it's not LR, just that someone has tried to 'oversell' it, in my opinion.
Here's another one, again similar colours and inclusions: http://www.artnet.com/artists/ernest-baptiste-leveill%C3%A9/vase-5z9eBUhlvvF6VUVFR_O34A2
I have got in to some long debates with others on whether pieces like these are correctly attributed, but as there is little information on LR pieces other that the beautiful bronze mounted or wheel cut pieces, pieces like mine remain the subject of some debate in respect to authenticity.
I'm certainly no expert in the field of French artglass, but that you think it may be LR leaves me less doubtful, so thanks again.
It's a beauty!
