Gothic Revival Waltham Hall Clock

A 9’ tall hall clock handcrafted in the modern Gothic style, circa 1910. The clock was artistically constructed by Charles L. Keifer and is the only one known of its kind. This clock was commissioned for the grand new Neo-Renaissance home of Levey Brothers Company businessman, Louis H. Levey, located at 2902 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. According to paperwork included with the clock, the unique furnishing was carved from a single oak log that had been found and unburied from Gosport, Indiana, dating over 2,000 years old. It took Charles L. Keifer two and a half years to complete the commission, finishing in 1910. Chime dial and movement is manufactured by Waltham Clock Company; a 1910 catalog for the clock company is included. This clock plays “Westminster” on four tubular bell chimes. An original photograph of the clock as it stood in the Levey estate is also included. Louis H. Levey died in 1934 and the clock was acquired by the Indianapolis Medical Society (est. 1848) after the death of Mrs. Meta Levey in 1959.
