I found a Herman Wetter and a William Mehrkens listed operating a soda water manufactory in an 1873 directory on Vine se cor. 2d Cardt. (Cardt meaning Carondalet, a township just south of St. Louis). The name of the business is Wetter & Mehrkens. I do not have this bottle in my collection. The 1874 directory says the are now at 1550 South 7th Street in St. Louis City. Wetter and Mehrkens separate with Herman going back to Vine and William staying on 7th Street.
Pic #1 shows a Wetter & Co bottle dating to around 1875. Wetter had teamed up with Henry Geisman (1875) or Gausman (1876)depending on which year directory we think is correct. I am not sure if there is a bottle with Henry's name on it unless he is the & Co.
Pic #2 shows a Mehrkens bottle dating around the 1880's
Pic #3 shows a H. Wetter bottle dating to the early 1900's. Wetter is now at the address of 128 W. Koeln in South St. Louis. Still to this day known as Carondalet.
Pic #4 is an early 1900's South End Bottling Co. bottle. South End listed as Successors to Herman Wetter 126 W. Koeln Ave. The bottling company is not listed after 1909
