If anyone has any idea what this may be or how it came to be formed, I'd love to hear. I've been trying to figure out anything about this thing and no one has been able to come up with any answers yet.
An enlarged ring is running around the whole thing, and each side has a different shape and texture.
Any iron foundries in your ares ?
What's the density ?
Maybe you could send pictures and all info you can to Tellus Museum, Cartersville, Georgia.
The Weinman Mineral Museum section there may be able to help ID it.

Looks sedimentary. Petrified clam? Is there a hinge on one edge?
The age may be determined by whether the hinge screws are slot of philips. LOL !!
