Super find today and NOT a Repro, 1930's Sterling Motor oil porcelain tombstone double sided side walk sign. I have not seen very many of these so it's somewhat rare. Sterling Motor Oil was started in the 1890's and was a division of Quaker State Oil back in the 1920's, Sterling oil did not sell well so Sterling Gasoline Stations were opened mostly in PA and NY, and West Virginia and Ohio by the Sterling Oil Co., I'm not sure how long Sterling Gasoline lasted but I did see a photo of a 1960 sterling gas station. Watch out for fake signs like this one coming out of India! They look just like this one but aren't as tall our as wide as the real ones like this one. I just saw fake ones sell on e-bay. This one had been painted over in white to be used as an Antique store sign that never happened. After having that paint stripped off the original Porcelain is in great shape with only a few scratches and chips! Many Thanks to my Antique Store friend who called me when he found this! Enjoy!! I sure will!!! UPDATE: Hi all, just thought I'd show you a Reproduction of this sign coming out of India on E-Bay in the 4th picture. If you compare lettering none of it matches perfectly, the grommets are different size and the Repro is about 2 inches shorter in height.
Happy Thanksgiving! Glad you all love this!
A sterling Thanksgiving to you
Thanks again everyone, hope your week is going great! Be careful out there!
Check out the reproduction I put in the 4th picture.
