I was asked to pick up a pile of concrete and sand from the backyard of a home in Houston, Tx. I was picking the pieces up by hand when I came across a piece of what I thought was a glob of melted glass. I broke it in half and threw it down, just before it hit the ground, I screamed NOOOOOO..........I realize what I just did. I broke this in half and it even had a nice tooth root on it. I took it to a museum and they identified it as a YOUTH MASTODON tooth and I told the scientist that it had a portion on the bottom that I destroyed. He said that was the root of the tooth. OMG I was so mad at myself. That's the story, I just got some ShoeGoo type rubber glue to put it back together and it has been fine for 15 years now.
Photo #1 is the cheek side of the tooth
Photo #2 is the top of the tooth which was worn from chewing food with sand in it.
Photo #3 is from the front and top
Photo #4 is the tongue side and inside of the tooth
It measures about 4 inches long.
my kind of treasure!
