Four years ago I posted very similar pictures of my Bubble Ups but did not give much information on the bottles or history of the company. I have done some research and would like to share. I have tried to be as accurate with timelines as I could.

pic 1 shows two seven ounce and one ten ounce bottle from the mid to late 1940's
pic 2 shows two 12 ounce and a quart from the mid to late 1940's
pic 3 shows four assorted sizes from the 1960's
    pic 4 shows a 10 and 16 ounce size from the 1970's

    Bubble Up History
The Bubble Up name was first used in 1919 by Sweet Valley Products Co. of Sandusky, Ohio. Bubble Up at that time was advertised as a grape juice. (not lemon-lime as some sources indicate). A patent was filed for the name Bubble-Up on August 13, 1919; However, the registration date is April 12, 1921. I am not sure why this would have taken so long.

The name Bubble-Up is virtually unused from 1922 to 1937. LeRoy O. Schneeburger of St. Louis then President of the Whistle-Vess Beverage Co. in 1937 buys the naked United States registration of Bubble Up and in 1938 registered the mark in his own name.

Bubble Up at this time has now been developed as a lemon lime drink and never used as a grape juice by LeRoy O. Schneeburger.

The Bubble Up Co. has been formed in St. Louis and the beverage is franchised and bottled all across the country. The Bubble Up Co. remains in St. Louis til about 1953. (The exact dates of the beginning and end of the companies are an estimate on my part but should be close).

In 1955 for sure The Bubble Up Corporation is now in Peoria, Illinois. I am not 100% sure of this but I believe The O-So Grape Company is the new owner. In 1959 a filing has been made with the patent office for the “Kiss of Lemon – Kiss of Lime” slogan and is registered on June 7, 1960.

Sometime in the early to mid-1960’s the Bubble Up Corp. is now in Los Angeles, Calif. The company has some bad times and files for bankruptcy in 1970.

IC Industries of Chicago, Illinois buys Bubble Up in 1973 to go along with its recently acquired Dad’s Root Beer Co. and Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers. IC wants to revive Bubble Up.
IC patents a new logo for Bubble Up in 1979.

Its now 1987 and Bubble Up has been sold along with Dad’s Root Beer Co. to the Monarch Co. which is based in Atlanta, Ga. The article I read states that Dad’s and Bubble Up will remain headquartered in Chicago to serve its 240 Franchised Bottlers.

Hedinger Brands LLC purchases Bubble Up in 2007 and is located in Jasper, Indiana. I did not research a lot on this transaction but am guessing they still own Bubble Up.

I do know you can still buy a bottle of Bubble Up to this day.
