The Ganges was originally the last wooden(built of Teak in Bombay) ship to be flagship of Britain's Pacific Fleet based in Canada's Salt Spring Island British Columbia. It later was used as a training ship and around 1905,dismantled and the mast used as the centrepiece of
training base set up ashore. I discovered this in an old album and post it as the most informal image I have seen of the Ganges boys ,they are usually very formal .I came across a story from the local newspaper which said that on Thursday afternoon a Bum boat from the local village tuck shop delivered Bread pudding and soft drinks for the boys. This would fit with the photo . It seems to me that photos of anyone actually eating and drinking (from Codd bottles it looks like) in those days are quite rare!
There is a Ganges museum in the U.K. and they now have the image.
