OK -- so technically Festivus isn't until next Sunday (23Dec2018) but also technically, the exact date of Festivus is *not* actually confined to any one single day, being perfectly correctly observable on *any* odd day of the year. :-)
[all the pertinent details/rules at this website: http://festivusweb.com/ ]
So's this year, I finally made my own 'tabletop sized' Festivus Pole, shown here with (a version of) the traditional Festivus meatloaf dinner. ;-) It (again, according to the rules set out on the above website) is made of genuine aluminum (with superior strength to weight ratio) and is in unpolished 'as found' condition. (just as if it had been freshly retrieved from the crawlspace, but in my case found laying around the shop in a bucketful of other odd bits of scrap metal) Its only "decoration" is an old yellow price tag (also pre-existing 'as found') which shows that somebody, sometime in the past, paid $2.39 for it at someplace called "STEWART BUILDING SUPPLY AND HARDWARE". (I have no idea what or where that might have been?)
Its 7/8" across and about 32" tall, I mounted it to a 6" wooden base (scrap from the trashcans at the shop) sanded up a little and sprayed with Rustoleum 'hammertone silver' paint which seems a nice match to the natural aluminum of the pole.
Since I'm not expecting any particular 'family gathering' to help me celebrate the holiday (thus the frozen meatloaf dinner) and I otherwise live alone but for the house-beast kitty, I'll refer my official "Feats of Strength" back to wrestling that ice cream freezer into/outta my truck by myself last week, and my "Airing of Grievances" to either scolding said kitty for constantly wanting to claw the back of my desk chair, or to Comcast/Xfinity TV/internet, because of their well known lousy 'customer service' (and/or marginal 'service' itself, depending on whether its raining or not) which I sadly don't really have another valid option but to have to pay for every month anyway... <groan> Both those 'grievance' options, of course, will be either not understood (he claws the d*mn chair nearly every day anyway, usually when he thinks its getting close to his dinnertime) or unheard (even if I called Comcast and complained, they don't give a sh*t...) but oh, well...
ALL IN THE SPIRIT OF FESTIVUS (for the rest of us)...? :-)
[and now...crap...what 'category' to pick for this post -- nothing seems quite right...??]
EDIT (23 Dec.): HAPPY FESTIVUS, CW friends!!! :-) :-) :-)
I've just added a couple pics showing my Festivus pole 'on display' by the window, [no need to put it *in* the window after all, plus it shows better with the curtain as background] AND the result of a seemingly successful 'kitchen experiment' which resulted with a *real-life* meatloaf to eat instead of the frozen dinner. :-) :-) :-)
As I am in the ice cream biz over 30 years love your good humor freezer!! Enjoy your Frozen Meatloaf Dinner!! I love meatloaf!! Don't freeze your Festivus pole as I would be tempted to stick my tongue to it!! Then your cats got my tongue!! Merry Whatever!!
THANKS SO MUCH keramikos and yougottahavestuff for your fun Festivus comments!!! kera -- that's an even more concise report of the 'origins of Festivus' than the one at the link I found -- FUN!! -- and I'm happy you have your own Festivus pole ready to celebrate?!! yougotta -- I like meatloaf too...who knows, maybe I'll even get ambitious and actually try to make a (small) *real* meatloaf instead of Marie's pre-packaged serving...and no worries about 'freezing it', daytime temps here thru Festivus and X-mas are supposed to be in the upper 50's or low 60's.
HAPPY SOLSTICE to the both of 'yas, as well as to fortapache & Brunswick for having a look and tapping the <love it> button!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Happy Solstice!!! and I love Meat Loaf!! Singer BAT OUT OF HELL!!!
HAPPY FESTIVUS, to all my CW friends!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
I just changed up a couple of last weeks pics, to show my Festivus pole 'on official display by the window', and [most surprisingly, perhaps...a Festivus Miracle maybe?] the actual (2lb?!) meatloaf I did really manage to bake...for my first-ever attempt at such a thing, I don't think it came out half bad?!
