This was found somewhere at an estate sale (I think?) and picked up (for a nice price) both because it was still in its box (cool!) and because I wanted the tool -- having dropped and badly broken the case of my (probably newer than this one) previous such soldering gun.
It is a WELLER #D-550 Dual Heat 240/325 Watt model. It is not actually "unused" (I've used it once or twice myself since I got it, it still works great!) but it seems obvious its previous owner didn't use it much/often -- especially given the presence of a paper tag on its cord plus the instruction sheet and cardboard packing tube. There probably would have been one or two other 'parts/accessories' included with it originally (an extra tip and tip wrench at least?) that have now gone missing. I'm guessing (mostly because of the box graphics) it dates from the 1960's or so, I haven't unfolded the instruction sheet to see if it has a date/etc on it.
THANKS SO MUCH to yougottahavestuff, fortapache, blunderbuss2, PhilDMorris, Toyrebel, Brunswick, EJW-54, iggy, Manikin, and Trey for sharing the love of my old Weller workhorse!! :-) :-):-) :-)
