On occasion we get very specific requests from collectors. This request came from a TV Producer in the Los Angeles area who was creating the largest O-Gauge Toy Train layout in California. One portion is dedicated to a 1950's era USAF Base in southern California and the owner specifically requested a C-54 that was in use in Air-Sea Search and Rescue. These were colorful aircraft for high visibility. The candidate for this depiction was the Marx Large Douglas DC-4 which was cosmetically changed to become a C-54 USAF Transport. It received many modifications including updated props, wheels and paint. In addition, support personal, crewman and vehicles were also modified to round out the toy diorama. The figures are all Marx plastic figures and the vehicles are Tootsietoys. The scene is a rescue C-54 being inspected and prepped for a mission with the pilots and crew having a quick briefing before taking off.
Nice! I love the high visibility paint schemes of the 50-60's aircraft.
