Vintage Marx Pressed Steel Douglas DC-4/7 Mark 4 American Airlines- Overhauled

Marx produced their large pressed steel DC-4 over two decades from late 1945 through 1962. These came in four versions or "Marks". The early version had just propellers that would free wheel to spin. The Mark 2 had the opening cabin door and the freewheeling props. Mark 3
had a wheels-turns-props (WTP) option only. This means the props would turn when rolled on the floor. The last, and most rare version, is the Mark 4 which featured the WTP props and the opening cabin door. Marx sold a separate set of "Airstairs" when the marks 1-3 were inventoried. On the Mark 4, not only were the airstairs included so were plastic figures in pale yellow color that were passengers, crew and mechanics. A Mark 4 is shown here restored in American Airlines markings. Most prevalent markings were Pan Am because Louis Marx, president was a long-time associate of Juan Trippe, President of Pan American Airlines. The last photo is actually vintage Christmas morning 1946 with a proud happy young man enjoying his brand-new Mark 1 in PAA makings.
