The modern marvel being the container as seen on ships. Changed ships, rail roads and trucking. I miss the boxcar myself plus they weren't all covered with graffiti. Miss the old style freighters too but it does make goods less expensive so oh well.
As for the model it was sold from 1968-1973 but it was only sold is this color in 1968. In 1969 the color of the truck body was changed to silver. I prefer the aqua myself. In 1970 it became a Superfast vehicle with mag wheels and was sold that way through 1973.
The tipper portion of this can be seen in photo #2. The container tips up but the container does not slide off. It was 59 cents back then so not quite that fancy. Note that the plastic top comes off the container. It really isn't a feature of the model but you can put your spare Matchbox parts in there just remember where you put them.
I like the aqua colour too.
Merry Christmas Fort.
The aqua is far superior,it's beautiful, that was my first thought looking at the pictures before I read your post. I've got a question 'Pache, I've been looking at a 18a(?) Bulldozer, how do I tell if it's an original, not a reissue? It and the BP Wrecker were the only Matchboxes I owned ib the 60's. Seeing your posts makes me want to acquire them agin. Also Merry Christmas, this is my first Christmas with CW and I want to express what a joy it is know a fellow collector like you. We have so many common tastes in toys.
I love all your Matchbox posts!! Merry Christmas friend!!
Thank you very much elanski and Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much Toyrebel. My first thought is the originals will have "made in England" on the underside and repros are made in China. No I will look it up. Looks like that model has not been reproduced.
And thak you very much Scott and Merry Christmas!
