Rare 1968 Poor Peoples Campaign 3.5" Civil Rights Pinback w Martin Luther King. Does anyone know what P.C.L.C. means? I think this event was held shortly after MLK's assassination.

THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CONGRESS BACKED THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. PUSH FOR THE "POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN" IN 1968...THIS PINBACK IS FROM THE THIRD MARCH AND SPEECH IN WASHINGTON, D.C., IN SPRING OF 1968. THE PINBACK IS 3-1/2" IN DIAMETER, AND READS "S.C.L.C. JOBS-INCOME POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN 1968 WASHINGTON D.C. 'I HAVE A DREAM'" THERE ARE PICTURES OF REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING AND REV. RALPH ABERNATHY, WHO TOOK OVER THE EFFORTS UPON THE ASSASSINATION OF DR. KING IN APRIL, 1968. THEY HAD A "VILLAGE" OF TENTS ON THE NATIONAL MALL, ASKING FOR EQUAL RIGHTS. Not sure on the P.C.L.C.

The sleep in at the mall was well after his death. It started mid may and lasted for six weeks. There was a delay in events because of all the riots. I can tell you that first hand because I was in a bad section of Oakland when the riots broke out. A white soldier in a tan uniform in the black part of town trying to get a cab to the Oakland army base to ship out to Vietnam. I ended up getting shot before I got to nam.

      Regarding comment number 1:
SCLC stands for Southern Christian Leadership Conference, not Congress.
