Cast iron gauge (?) with 9 holes, each one fronted with a lip, carrying loop on top. Stands either vertically or lays flat. Marked Wm G & Co.
Largest hole is 1.75", smallest hole is .40". 6.5" high x 4" wide. What is it used for?
Welcome to CW!!! You should find answers here!!!
Just what every bachelor needs. LOL ! Welcome to CW/CyberAsylum.
I have one made of plastic that is marked Spaghetti Measure. Under each hole it gives how many servings it is and how many ounces.
Most likely nothing to do with pasta. Holes are tapered and the cast iron technique is 19th century, early 20th. The .40" hole would not be enough pasta to consider cooking.
OK, I took my search in a different direction and came up with a measuring device for sizing the exterior diameter of gun barrels.
My above comment is from an article published in 1874 in Europe about a William Grey gun maker.
I thought of the gun barrel possibility along with perhaps it was for determining shot size for artillery canisters. Sizes involved did not work out. Canister shot did not require exact sizes and the holes are not precise enough to meet barrel tolerances.
Wild and crazy guess, looks like some kind of ball toss game. I said WILD.
