Picked up the shirt at the Long Beach Antique Flea Market. Saw that it had some good patches on it which are post 1972 thus a good buy. Plus if it has the patches I don't need to attach them which is a huge plus.
I have posted bits and pieces of the 1970s uniform before but I haven't put together a complete uniform. This is a bit of a transitional uniform as it has the old style council patch. See photo #4 where it gives the city and state just above the troop number. The later and current council patches are much more colorful.
The most noticeable change is the red beret which I have posted earlier. Also the green canvas canteen cover is gone and replaced with a red one. The last new feature that I can recall is the USA flag patch on right shoulder, a nice touch as previously there was just the patrol patch there. Just remembered one more thing. The position patch as seen on the left arm has changed! In this case it is Patrol Leader and it even says so. The earlier patch was a pair of bars like a US Army captain.
That is it for now. I do have another 1970s shirt with the new council patch so once more stay tuned!
Super uniform. Looks good together and I think the red beret and canteen make it a bit more unusual.
Never seen the red canteen cover before.
Thank you very much elanski. Got a bit of contrast.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. I think they may have had some other red accessories around this time.
