This Art-Deco style building still functions as a bank.
Obviously some remodeling has been done to this structure. I think that the awning and the pieces under the windows detract somewhat from its character.
There are busts of Mercury on both upper corners of this building. Perhaps Mercury graces this edifice as reminder of the volatility of the financial world?
And also, a good cleaning would benefit this grand building.
Great vintage bank building Ted, the Mercury heads are really cool - think you're right about the mercurial world of finance!
Thank you, Jenni! These buildings stand out in an age of bland, practical, and seemingly Soviet inspired cheaply constructed buildings.
Thank you for your kind comments, and for your love of this image.
Thanks, all for your loves of these images.....
A lovely old building, which despite its age and inevitable 'alterations' remains with much of its original and most handsome character. Congrats to its owners for (probably) resisting the urge to drastically "modernize" it during its lifespan! :-) :-)
Yes, AO...all that you say is true. Your ideas are confirmed when we see older buildings that have been "modernized" after they have had the alterations removed.
