Got this at local small antique shop. Looks like the bottom has been redone. Very heavy. Looks like dirt is collected in the gaps. Almost as if it was outside in the dust. I'm not sure is this is a jug or a urn. Need help identifying.

My opinion is also fact......be patient. People here work and have other activities so they are not always online. Many good folks here but all good things come in time. Just be patient. You could add information like how big it is, height and diameter. Any markings that don't show in the pictures? The more info you provide the quicker and better your answer will be.

Keep in mind that Amer. Indians didn't have potter's wheels until after Europeans entered the picture.

Not only did they not use potter's wheels (and traditional N.A. potters still don't) but they never used glazes. So the possibility of it being Native American can be eliminated.

It has the general look of a modern piece, intended for the decorator market, and finished to appear to be older than it is. That looks like a dark brown stain or paint on the bottom. That's a "fresh out of the kiln" orange clay body showing through around the bottom edge.

Mexican, maybe, but since it's modern, could have been done almost anywhere.
