This came up in the local classifieds and I just had to jump on it. It's from the 40's-ish, and came with original tags and most of its original hardware. I'm not finding much information about it online, but it appears to be an all in one type of unit. It has all the attachments for sucking "stuff" out of the ears, nose and throat, but also works as an anesthesia unit, and has a cautery transformer, so it could have been used for surgery too. Unfortunately, it's missing the original Ether bottle, but i'm pretty sure I can find one of those online.
The body and drawers are all metal. The shelf below the controls, and the top shelf, where all the bottles are seated, are both made of a hard fiber board material. The unit, overall, is very heavy but, is quite easily rolled from one room to the next on wheels that are hidden behind the black skirting. And, last, but not least... The vacuum/pressure pump STILL WORKS!!!
That thing is *friggin' fabulous* -- what an awesome prize for your personal collection, I'd more expect to see something like that in a museum somewhere instead?!!
<cheers><applause>
Thank you AnythingObscure, I would expect the same thing, and couldn't believe my eyes when it popped up on the local, small town, classifieds. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. It posted 9pm-ish on Monday night, and the next day was Super Bowl Sunday! (I've, literally, only had this thing for a few days!) I can't stop staring at it, and wondering what it has seen, in it's lifetime...
