Believe artist name is Teng Fan. Item is a family herlium passed down from generations. No one seems to know what it actually is, except that it's bronze and it apears to be a bonsai planter, we think. Anyone have any info or ideas we would appreciate input. Thanks oh and that it's late 1800.

They kind of look like Japanese dragons to me. ??
I had an anitiquties dealer look at it and said it appears to be Chinese about late 1800s and was a brush bowl for artist to put used brushes in for wash. I had an interpretor look at the name on bottom of bowl and said the name was teng fan chinese. That's all I know at this time. Anyone else want to take a stave at it. Appreciate all the info I can get. Thanks
Japanese, 19th to early 20th c. The name on the bottom seems to be the workshop name, but google only shows up a placename in Japan. I suspect this may also have come from Takaoka, based only on the style and history of the city and the bronze tradition there.
I hope this is not used as ikebana because the dragons would seriously clash with the flowers. As a water basin for brush sounds right since dragons are creatures of the water.
