Oriental Ginger Jar Makers marks

Hi, I know that this may be a long shot, but i found this and would like to know how old this is and what style please. The marks are all on the top, reading ' E X7 8 ', and on the lid again it looks like another '8'

I would love it to have some value, but if not, im sure i can find a use for it.
