Pictured here is a very old hand painted picture of a soldier & woman. His uniform has 28 markings on the top of each shoulder. I wish there was something written on the back of this old portrait, but there isn't. I'm just happy that I added it to my "must have" items for display.

ANY IDEAS REGARDING THE TIME PERIOD OF THIS SOLDIER?
WHAT COUNTRY THIS SOLDIER MIGHT BE FROM?
WHAT THE NUMBER 28 ON EACH SHOULDER STRAP MIGHT MEAN?.... 28th regiment maybe???

This is much later than Civil War and not from the US.

Numbered shoulder straps are typical of German-- believe they represent the regiment.
