i purchased this dresser from a older gentleman who says it belonged to his late wifes m other, does anyone know anything about it.

Right now its a "marriage" of two different pieces. Top has nothing to do with the bottom. The top is very likely British, as they made a lot of this furniture during the depression years.
i disagree with you there is actually another one on this site just a little different bottom and this definetly goes together
