This is a 1963 Original penny gumball machine made by Beaver in Ontario, Canada. This is the first vending machine that began an era of candy and nut machines for this famous company who still ships worldwide today. This machine did not have a lock or key as it was designed to fit onto a stand with 2 or 4 machines with a top casting to hold and lock the machine into place. The owner/operator would unlock the top casting of the stand, and then access the individual gumball machines to empty the coins and re-fill the products. The machines were awkward to refill as you had to turn them upside down so the design was improved after only one year in production to the ones you see today with a top metal cap containing a barrel lock.
