This little thing is gonna find itself a new spot to sit on the kitchen shelf someplace right after this posting simply because of its vibrant bright red color (my favorite color for 'kitchen decorations') so it obviously needs to be there, instead of hiding in a cardboard box?!! :-) :-) :-)

It is a "PIXIE" pencil sharpener made by "APSCO PRODUCTS INC." of Los Angeles Calif. and Rockford, Ill. U.S.A. The bright red body of it that collects the pencil shavings is made of molded plastic with a stamped metal back attached with (one of two) small screws, which twists onto the sharpener part in at least 4 different positions allowing it to be mounted in various orientations. Its front side features the stylized PIXIE name and a clown face logo at its top/bottom (both marked as registered trademarks) with the APSCO logo and information in the middle between the little set of ridges that make the decoration to its sides.

Its sharpener part is a couple cast "pot metal" pieces with a steel cutter and handle with gray plastic knob attached -- the cutter is geared to stationary teeth around the outside part, so cranking the handle makes it spin while its holder/axle goes round and round, thus sharpening the point of the pencil.

I have had this for many years now, having glommed onto it sometime ~30+ yrs ago from my family home. I don't remember when nor why -- what I *do* remember is actually USING it as a kid to sharpen my pencils to do my school homework...it was always handy in the pantry closet just around the corner from the kitchen table where Mom presided over those sorta activities back then...

Thus it is certainly at least 50yrs old, maybe even 60+ <sigh> depending on where and when Mom (probably) got it in the first place...??

THANKS SO MUCH for your comments and <love it>s to: yougottahavestuff, Vynil33rpm, blunderbuss2, aura, courtenayantiques, fortapache, iggy, clockerman, & Brunswick!!

YGHS, I vaguely recall having a similar reaction myself the first time I ever encountered an electric pencil sharpener -- but in my case I discovered it on somebody else's desk (Donna, the receptionist/ofc manager?) one evening when I 'went back to work' with Dad after dinner. As nobody else was around, he soon heard me in the other room grinding away and came to see what I was up to, probably before I'd even gotten completely thru my first entire pencil...?? <lolol>
