Today's picture of the entry to the new Outdoor Storage annex at Lakeside Storage might give one the impression that the owner is OCD about collecting Porcelain Signs as well as other old memorabilia. What do you think? I'm told there's no know cure!

Hmmmmm? That's what I figured, so I'll continue pacing myself accordingly. I actually just passed up a Mobile sign today cause the guy wants too much for it. I think CW therapy is helping?

      Purvis,
You're ecactly right! He's supposed to have a guitar in his hands but since it's a real guitar I don't want to expose it to the weather.

I enjoy seeing all your posts. I was going to ask if you had ever come across a Paraland sign but I found a post of yours from a couple of years ago that showed one!
My dad ran a Paraland station back in the 60s. At some point during that time, the name changed to Value Village or, possibly, the 2 signs were displayed simultaneously; I can't remember.
I do recall that gas customers earned little tickets which they could use inside the store for discounts on all kinds of merchandise, from clothing, tools, food to tobacco products.
When I've tried to research Value Village, my search only comes up with a chain of thrift stores--definitely not the same VV.
I'll watch your posts to see if you ever get one, you have everything else!
My dad would have loved to tour your facility. He was always in the gasoline business, after bootlegging got too risky!
(The big risk came with radios in police cars).
      Bless his heart!

Interesting story u tell about your dad. I loved my dad and he was a wonderful example for me. We actually have 2 Paraland signs. One of each kind I think? I wasn't even aware of the difference until it was pointed out to me recently when I had another one offered to me by a contact in Texas

My sister has one of Daddy's oldest cloth (canvas?) zippered bank bag from the gas station/store. Hand written in ink across the top edge is "Paraland" and below that, hand written in ink is "Value Village" both in his perfect printing. Those names date the bag to the 1960s.
The bag is obviously old, is a khaki color and has a heavy brass zipper. You can tell it was heavily used. In those days, cash was expected. Anyone trying to pay with a credit card would have been somewhat of an oddity.

I'd rather have the $$$ that went in the cash bag. Those were the days of silver coins and Silver Certificates issued by the govt.
