I’ve had no luck trying to figure out what this tool was used for. It was in my grandfathers ferrier box along with some other tools. I thought maybe it’s a mold for horseshoe nails, but doing some research I can’t find another one like it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I kinda think bobby725 is on the right track...google "veterinary speculum" for more info... (if you're brave enough?) <lol>

I will throw in two cents. The way both ends of this will grip, one short the other longer. Closest thing I ever saw to this tool was a cheek tooth extractor. They were used to pull rotted or broken teeth from the cows as needed. The longer end was used to burrow down to get the root and the shorter end was used to remove the tooth. Just my guess from days on the farm years ago.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried searching “spreader hand tool” and a tooth extractor is the closest thing I see that resembles what I’ve got. Thanks for everyone’s help in closing out my mystery.
