This is the "TRIMM FEATHERWEIGHT" earphone, made by "TRIMM INC. of LIBERTYVILLE, ILL., U.S.A." It once served duty as an 'audio reinforcement device' (read: hearing aid) that lived in the pewback hymnal racks at a church, plugged into an unobtrusive little brown box with a 'volume knob' which was hooked into the speaker/microphone system, to allow the old folks to hear the sermons better.

Its earpiece is at the end of an extendable (bakelite, probably) handle, about 10" long when collapsed and 16" when fully extended. Its cloth covered cord is still in perfect condition, with a right angle 1/4" phone plug (by SWITCHCRAFT) on its end. I don't know forzactly how old it really is, but will guess 1940's-ish.

Somewhere around here I think I also have another one or two of these (along with a few of the little brown boxes) having got them all years ago while 'on the job' replacing an elderly (and failing) church sound system.

"Old folks", eh ? Bet you haven't spent a day serving 75 m/m's or working on running jet engines. LOL !

THANKS KINDLY to SpiritBear, bobby725, hunterqlee, Watchsearcher, Brunswick, fortapache, & blunderbuss2 for your fun comments and <love it>s!!

BB2: 'jet engines' = NO. '75 m/m's probably also a NO, but in the off chance you're referring to the little chocolate candy that doesn't melt in your hand...? I know I've eaten (if not actually served to anybody else) at least 75 of them at a time, many times more than once...?? ;-)

INSTEAD I've just spent ~25yrs literally standing/crouching/hanging in the midst of hundreds or thousands of droning organ pipes trying to beat them into tune...think of it as listening to constant sustained tones of frequencies ranging from 'shake the floor' to 'call the dogs' for several hours (at least) at a time, once or thrice a week. I use "shooter's earplugs" (custom made by an audiologist) or I likely *would* already be experiencing premature hearing loss myself, every so often I also wear industrial hearing-protector headphones over those.

I worked for nearly 20 years at the Quincy shipyard!!! Chippers and shipfitters made the world RING!!! Funny story!!! We had to take hearing tests yearly!! One worker was in the booth he put the headphones on and the tester said raise your hand when you hear a sound!!! Never put his hand up!!! Tester went in an pulled the headphones off him and saw the earplugs in his ears!!! Worker said he was told to always wear them!!!
