This piece is a fine illustration of the idea of ugly beauty. I do have a taste for the grotesque & bizarre in glass, & thus, this vase satisfies my somewhat perverse appetite to perfection. Those funky, fungal, dripping pustules look menacingly ready to burst out of that crackled, rainbow skin.
It measures a modest 16 cm tall, but it has a presence far beyond its small stature.
Made from what looks like about three or four layers of glass, it contains uranium & glows eerily just like alien life forms are supposed to do. It really does look like something out of a Tim Burton movie (Mars Attacks is just about my all time favourite).
A Kralik "humpen" vase from the Art Nouveau era.
(I have another "humpen" in ruby crackle so viciously sharp that one could injure oneself on it - something tells me this design was intended to appeal to folks with a dark sense of humour).
These are almost disturbingly odd, while subliminally intriguing at the same time..... Great one!!
I just love vase and the education. You always write so well. Thanks
Many thanks, welzebub! "Disturbingly odd" is right up my alley! :-)
Thank you most kindly, Treasure Tex! That is so nice of you to say, & I'm pleased to both entertain & educate!
It might be an alien artifact !?
I believe it may very well be one, Bambus1920...

Well, we know it's male. LOL !
Craig sums this one up with a great description - it's an ugly beauty for sure - love it all the same.
""Disturbingly odd" is right up my alley! "
I kinda knew that already! LOL
Cheers, MALKEY!
blunderbuss2 - perhaps it is, perhaps it isn't! :-)
philmac, many thanks & glad you're enjoying its curious charms!
Yep, you've got my number, welzebub! :-)
I'm going to have to do an Addams Family style "portrait" of all my weirdest glass sometime. Going to an antiques fair tomorrow, so I might get lucky & find another worthy freak for my vitreous sideshow...
Lol. I love your description of pustules and other grossness. It's really weird and wonderful
Many thanks, Vintagefran, so glad you're enjoying it all!
Missed this one IronLace! Most peculiar! But mesmerising at the same time!
Thanks also, Justanovice - & peculiarly mesmerising it most certainly is...
