I think these are made in the Phillipines. I like them alot, but i prefer the really old ones. When i was little my Memere had two really old ones - Victorian and i knocked one off the wall when i was a kid - and it broke into many pieces. It upset my Memere quite a bit so i know that it was important to her. I always felt bad about that, but i was like 5 yrs old.
These velvet lined shell boxes are wonderful, I've picked up a few on the Florida coast they are very cheery and hold a lot of stuff
