I often wonder when I purchase boxes so is this an antique box? It seem as if it may be by the interior. Maybe it held 3 bottles, I don't think it is a jewelry box. If anyone has any info, feel free to chime in.box
For some reason, it strikes me as a once fancy little box, now missing some polished silver (brass?) exterior decorations in its recessed areas, that once held a "portable communion set" (there's a fancy name for that I don't know offhand) that a priest uses while blessing homebound/hospitalized/etc. parishoners...??
Wow Anything, okay....thanks! That is so interesting, thanks for the information.
JUST a guess raven3766 -- I know similar-ish sized pretty wood boxes *do* exist for that, just not really whether yours might have once been one of 'em...?? ;-) :-)
Okay, got it! Thanks again... :-)

Beautiful wood box and looks like a religious item .
It is an antique scent caddy box and not a religious box like others said here. There used to be 3 glass or crystal perfume/scent bottles in them. It is probably from the Napoleon III era. Usually the glass bottles would have been French glass bottles made by baccarat and other French glass makers.
