It's been really wet and windy this last week in the UK, but hubby and I decided to brave the weather and had a walk round our local town! I found this pretty shell cameo brooch in a charity shop. It was £3 so not too much money and the lady is quite pretty, unlike some I have seen! The metal has a copper tone to it, and it has a safety chain. It's got quite a bit of age to it, but can someone pin a date for it?
She's beautiful!
Hello, Adele. Was hoping that after thinking it over for a couple of days I would have something more definitive to say. The mount seems a little earlier to me than the cameo itself, although I see no evidence of a marriage. Anytime 1930s - 50s.
I think of these as 'Spanish comb ladies'. They seem to have been an updated interpretation of a very popular earlier subject, Psyche, with her squared off butterfly wing.

Thank you Cameosleuth, that info is really interesting.
