I got this the same place I got the Tuscany vase. According to my research, it's from a 1936 Oldsmobile 6 cylinder. They used 2 different hood ornaments (or as some call them, Mascots) on the 6 cylinder models in 1936. This is the longer of the two. It has some damage in the rear, where the next piece of chrome attaches, but it wouldn't be seen when mounted on a car. It also has the some pitting, as can be expected, but the black highlight paint is in very good shape, and the stud and nut are there and not rusted. I bought it because of the strong Deco styling, And as you can see from the first and second pictures, I have gotten it off the clothespin and made a base for it. Thanks for looking!
Update! I got an email from a lady that was searching for one of these for her husbands car, and she had seen it on CW after a search. Well after a few emails, she got the piece, I'm just waiting for her to send me some pics of the car with the Mascot on it!
It sure does! Gotta love the style back then!
I found this one in a flea market type place. Persistance is the key!
Ahh its great Upstate. Reminds me of the big old American trains of the time.
Thanks Amber and Vintage!
