I’m dating myself here but that’s alright. We forgot we even had this as it was in the same box the antique hand fans were in that I’ve posted. It hadn’t been opened since the early 1960’s.This is Chessie the cat that Chesapeake and Ohio railway first used in the fall of 1933.They needed a symbol to remind passengers they could “sleep like a kitten” in the quiet air conditioned train.Viennese artist G Grueneald created Chessie. There well preserved like I am for being so old.My wife ordered these in 1956 ( See date on stamp) about 6 months after we got married. What’s so funny is if you blow up the envelope you can see were she was practicing writing her full married name in different styles. That’s back when you pulled your pants up to your waist and writing and proper grammar was still emphasized in school.
Love Chessie and his/her dad Peake, wonderful cat images, look at how long Chessie has been around on the way to immortality. Wonder how many of us ladies used to practice the Mrs with our boyfriend's names, when I finally married in my early 30s there had been a couple others lol, at least I got an A in penmanship class (back when handwriting was important :) !
What a beautiful time capsule !~
