Hood ornament mis-identified as Studebaker

A possible 1950s aftermarket hood ornament. It is of sturdy construction. Made in two pieces - top and bottom halves. Just-a-Car-Guy shows it as Studebaker, but I emailed photos to the Studebaker Museum and they tell me it is not. There are makers marks on both halves: the bottom is marked X0-580 plus two circular logos, one "JD" in a circle (or DJ) and the other SMC in a circle. The top is marked X0-581 plus the same two logos. (See last photo) It is about 19 inches long.
