Isn't it great when you find something just like you've already got, but bigger?
I've owned a small basket exactly the same for many years, so it was fantastic to find a larger version this week.
It measures 19.5 cm tall, 10 cm across the inside of the incurved top rim, & 7 cm across the base, which has a neatly snapped pontil mark (not rough at all, & curiously like a navel).
Made from opaque ivory or custard coloured glass, this basket has a crimped, rose bowl type form. There is applied decoration in amber of a leaf trail with two pink & white flowers, as well as a twisted amber handle.
The ivory glass contains uranium & glows intensely under UV light.
I think most likely Bohemian...perhaps Harrach?
Beautiful! I'd think Harrach too but don't actually know.....perhaps someone will know......
Great basket for Easter :)
Many thanks, sklo42...yes, would be nice to have confirmation this is Harrach...have seen a fair few other similar pieces attributed as such...it makes a certain amount of sense in the context of their other vaseline with applied flowers items...
Absolutely, Mrstyndall...I am planning to fill it with eggs...at the moment it's on my dining table (what I do with new arrivals lately)
Lovely. To have two different in sizes even better.
Absolutely, Vintagefran! I shall have to take a photo of them together sometime...
