Here I have two Welz Vases.......same shape, same height and same rigaree. The pink vase with white stripes is a recent addition to a small collection of Welz pink/white striped vases I have. The spatter seen on the other vase also comes on other Welz shapes. So, just two Welz vases you might think......

However another example of the pink stripey vase can be seen on a shelf in the Passau Glass Museum.......on a shelf marked Harrach.

      Beautiful!!

I saw that one in the Passau Glass Museum about two weeks ago. Saw a few welz decors in the museum (outside of the small welz display).

Thank you, IronLace. The shape also comes in green/white with amber rigaree.

Aaaaah, scott, I so envy you. I hope you had enough time there to see all at your leisure.

Thanks sklo-- I was there with my daughter (stationed in Germany) and her friend.

We spent about 3 hours there-- I could have stayed for a full day, but their interests were pegged after an hour!

We were the only folks in the museum. I was surprised that some of the Viking cruises weren't in there.

I've considered such a cruise, not that I'd consider cruising normally. However the time in Passau wasn't enough to make it worthwhile. As you were there anyway it's somewhat different.

My daughter lives about 1.5 hrs from Passau, so it was an easy and fun one day trip.

Yes, shareurpassion, and quite a different feel to them!

I am assuming the swirls only go in one direction, like other Welz decors, but the transparency of the glass gives it a cross-hatched effect in your photo that I love.

Wow22... You're right in your assumption. Welz used the combination of white stripes on translucent pink glass in a number of ways. One other at least gives the effect of cross hatching. As a sub group I like them very much.

Peggy, I have seen all sorts of things mis-attributed at Passau. It is an amazing place, and generally very accurate, but no one can be right 100% of the time, so I just think it shouldn't be used as the absolute bible of glass ID. I also believe that Harrach collected glass from other makers all over Europe to use as references, and that over time, some of these pieces have ended up being identified as actually having been made by Harrach. The Welz pieces attributed to Harrach fall into this category, in my opinion. I love your vase - thank you for sharing it!

Michelle, I'd been hoping to find this vase for about three years when it cropped up on ebay for not very much. It is the vase that a now former member of C.W. cited as Harrach in a rather contentious discussion as to whether the vase I'd posted as Welz was Welz at all.
I would have accepted the Pasau attribution to Harrach but for the fact that I already owned the very same moulded shape in a known Welz décor. The rigaree is at a slightly higher level on the striped vase but as rigaree is applid by hand differences are normal.
Thus they shared a maker...... Obviously with the history I'm very pleased to have both versions.

Another beauty. I love the pink stripes

Thanks, Fran. Together they are a great example of how a different décor can give a different feel to a shape.
