Here's one for ya! Took me forever to find any case tang stamp to match this one. so according to what I found, somewhere 1930-1945. Blade design matches the Chromium 240, but none of the markings for that blade are present. Anyone know anything about this blade?

    Thanks as always!

If you go to the official case library on their site you will find that mark was used from 1940 to 1965 on fixed blade knives.

Thanks for the response! odd... the graphic I posted expresses earlier dates.. but cool still vintage. However what model, I'm wondering... blade shape says hunting and outdoors to me... handle says kitchen!

Look up case cutlery xx kitchen knife. It is chrome carbon steel. You will find 100's of them. They are way more common than fixed blade outdoor/hunting knives or folding blade pocket knives and so not as collectable to most folks.

Figured that was the model, and yes I've seen a bajillion of them online. my only issue is all of them seem to be marked "240 - 8" CASE XX CHROMIUM" . This knife has no such markings.. totally diff tang stamp as far as font use. Totally agree this is the Chromium 240.. just would like to know why it's marked differently and if it sets it apart in any way. Again thanks for the responses!

In truth, just pondering about why it's different than every other pic I've seen.. haha I'm curious like that!

Well maybe it is time for you to research fake case stamps. Nothing about your stamp font matches anything case ever used. The word is correct but the font is totally wrong

      Perhaps so!

For the record, though... the graphic that I posted with this came from page 158 of "counterfeiting Antique Cutlery" by Gerald Witcher in assoc with NKCA and states :

      c. 1930-1945 This stamp is generally found on fixed blade knives. I have seen it on V-44 and V-42 patterns as well as Greenbone handled sheath knives. Many knives with this stamp were made on contract for Case by Roberson Knife Co."

Would that not be indicative of a contracted Case?
