Straub’s Café, as depicted in 1968. This establishment was located at Market and Spruce Sts., Kingston, PA, and ceased operations in 1972.

The Art-Deco façade was added most likely in the early 40s.

That is Annie Lou Straub, the owners’ daughter, and bartender, pictured in this nostalgic view.

I grew up with Neighborhood stores!!! Bars, Drug, Butcher Food Furniture Etc. Now we've got Big Box stores and the internet all devouring each other!!!
The wife and I for 32 years have our Ice Cream shop and many friends and customers. Old School!! but how long can we last??? Seems like the new world wants everything for free!!! or it's owed to them!!! Hard work for what you get seems to be in the past!!
Sorry I'll get off my soapbox!!! Love your posts!!!

      Love those windows..:-)

Thank you, inky...yes those windows were a popular treatment back in the 40s. Their allure is timeless. The bar has closed and has been redone into an apartment, with no trace of its former glory :(

Adding to the attractiveness of those octagonal windows is that pink colored neon lights graced the indoor perimeter of each of them, of which there were three (the third window was on the left side of the building). Unfortunately, I have not found any pictures of those optical delights :(
