Our first vegetarian here for the recent Taxidermy Tuesday series of post. This one is a rabbit. At first I thought it was a jack rabbit but it is about an inch too short (3 inches long) so probably a cottontail. This skull still has a bit of color to it. Many are bleached so white it is hard to see the detail.
The first detail of note are those large front teeth. Looks like it can inflict a painful although not dangerous bite. Has a nice set of molar as to crunch up those incisors bite off. Rabbits are famed for their ability to chew. They are not rodents. Time to copy and paste from Google....
" RABBITS. Rabbits are not rodents, despite what you may have been taught in school. They look like rodents; however their different teeth puts them in the Lagomorpha order. Rabbits were classified as rodents until 1912."
Rabbit fanciers get offended when they are called rodents. Rodents have orange incisors which are growing all the time. Beavers are rodents. They still seem to be closely related to me.
Almost done with the skulls but then I have some insects, it will be all good.
