    IronLace
    (930 items)

This Victorian art glass dish is made from a two layers glass - clear shading to an intense pink at the top rim, with a subtle milky opalescence underneath. Faint opalescent stripes rise up from the base, which has a neatly polished out pontil mark. The dish is encircled with a pale yellow (not UV reactive) crimped rigaree band.
It measures 6.5 cm tall, 12.8 cm wide across the top rim, & 6 cm across the base.
Probably would have once sat in a silver plate holder.
As English as a good cup of tea, I believe!

Very nice IronLace, it reminds me of the Compote that I posted a year or so ago:

I really like the Color combination! :^)

Many thanks, billretirecoll - I do recall that piece, the rigaree decoration is a nice link between different styles & eras of glass. Many examples of the Victorian glass from Stourbridge were inspired by the revival of old Venetian techniques, which in turn were revived in the mid - 20th century. With glass, it always seems to turn full circle...

I agree, Bambus1920...I once lived near the coast, now I'm far from it, but the marine influence lingers on...

Nice fingerbowl, looks very Stevens & Williams to me, and likely set on a matching glass underplate.
