This basket has undergone an amazing number of production processes. It is a moulded shape with ten ridges on the outside , coinciding with ten ribs on the inside. The glass is clear except along the line of the ridges/ribs where there is opalescence. The opalescent lines start in the centre of the base and extend up to below the teal blue on the rim. The rim itself is in a crimp seen on other Welz pieces and topped off with a green thorn handle. On one side is an applied stem with two applied flowers and two applied leaves. The basket is on a small foot and the base has the scar of a snapped pontil.
This is the first Welz basket I've seen with this type of applied flowers and foliage.
Height 23 cm./9 inches
Super gorgeous basket, that teal blue rim is a wonderful touch
Indeed, Newfld, it stops the basket being insipid!
I agree, the rim is such a gorgeous color. So much is going on here, and it all works together so well!
And now, Michelle, I have to decide whether it goes with the Kralik applied flowers etc. or with the Welz fraternity.
It has attributes of both, I'd say, so that may be a tough one! :)
Fantastic! The teal is wonderful!
I have a couple of items in the same sort of colour scheme -
